US Consul General Seeks Collaboration to Support Development Projects in Punjab

US Consul General in Lahore, Kristin K. Hawkins, visited the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal office where she met with Sohail Shaukat Butt, the Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the US and Pakistani governments in social welfare initiatives.

During the discussion, Consul General Hawkins invited the Punjab government to support various social projects in the region. Minister Shaukat Butt detailed the government’s extensive public welfare efforts, highlighting key initiatives such as the Himmat Card, which provides financial support to deserving individuals. Consul General Hawkins praised this initiative and expressed the US’s willingness to assist in healthcare, education, and employment support.

The Minister elaborated on the government’s programs for social and economic stability, including support for vulnerable groups and the establishment of special centers for women’s protection. He emphasized infrastructure development, particularly making buildings accessible for disabled individuals, and noted the importance of NGOs in social welfare projects. He assured that FATF protocols are being followed and stressed promoting religious harmony.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s dedication to women’s safety and rehabilitation was underscored, along with commitments to the rights of transgender individuals and the launch of special programs for drug rehabilitation. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Punjab government’s commitment to social harmony and brotherhood.
