ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has announced its intention to create an ‘Energy Transition and Investment Plan’ (ETIP) as part of its efforts to shift towards clean, sustainable, and affordable energy solutions. This plan was unveiled at the SEforALL Global Forum 2025, held in Bridgetown, Barbados, and aims to position the country as a leader in sustainable energy development.
The ETIP is designed to tackle key areas, including:
- Investment Roadmap: Outlining strategies for transitioning to a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
- Energy Security: Identifying cost-effective renewable energy options to reduce dependency on fuel imports.
- Green Job Creation: Supporting a fair transition by generating employment opportunities in a decarbonized world.
- Financial Viability: Attracting investment in energy infrastructure and addressing systemic inefficiencies.
The UN’s Sustainable Energy for ALL (SEforALL) initiative, along with its CEO Damilola Ogunbiyi, is collaborating with Pakistan to help implement this comprehensive plan. Adviser to Prime Minister Mohammad Ali emphasized that this roadmap will also address challenges like reducing Pakistan’s $15 billion annual energy import bill.
Participation in the global forum underscores Pakistan’s dedication to climate action and sustainable development. This ambitious plan aims to integrate renewable energy across sectors, including transportation, industry, and agriculture, ensuring a more inclusive and sustainable energy future.
