Pakistan Invites Japanese Firms to Invest in Mineral Sector

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal, has urged Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in the country’s mineral sector, highlighting its rare earth elements, copper, and gold reserves.

During meetings in Tokyo, Kamal engaged with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Japan–Pakistan Business Cooperation Committee (JPBCC), encouraging joint ventures in mineral exploration, processing, and value addition. He emphasized Pakistan’s openness to technology transfer and public-private investment models, positioning the sector for exports to third countries.

Kamal also discussed Pakistan’s industrial, workforce, and trade priorities with JICA Senior Vice President HARA Shohei, acknowledging JICA’s $11.7 billion contribution to transport, energy, and vocational training. He requested additional support for logistics corridors and industrial clusters, while proposing expanded technical cooperation in digital innovation and green technologies.

In talks with JETRO President Susumu Kataoka, Kamal urged greater promotion of Pakistan’s investment potential, particularly in minerals and special economic zones. He encouraged Japanese participation in trade exhibitions organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

At a luncheon hosted by JPBCC, Kamal called for input on the upcoming Pakistan–Japan Business Dialogue, focusing on minerals, ICT, manufacturing, engineering, and agriculture-related value chains. He assured Japanese firms that Pakistan is actively working to resolve operational concerns raised by investors.

This initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Japan, fostering trade, investment, and technology partnerships.
