Islamabad Approves New Road to Connect Margalla Avenue with Motorway

ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has finalized plans for a new road project linking Margalla Avenue to the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1), aiming to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion.

Spanning 3.4 kilometers, the road will pass through Rawalpindi (1.8 km) and Islamabad (1.6 km). The CDA will oversee construction, ensuring minimal disruption to residential areas. The project requires 181 kanals of land, with 51 kanals in Islamabad’s Sangjani area and 130 kanals in Rawalpindi’s Badana Kurd.

The Rs. 5.45 billion initiative, approved in August 2023, includes both construction and land acquisition. Officials aim to complete the project within eight months after work begins. The road will feature six lanes, providing an alternative route between Islamabad and GT Road (N-5).

CDA Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza emphasized the importance of the project, stating that once land acquisition is complete, construction will proceed swiftly.

This development is expected to enhance Islamabad’s infrastructure, reduce travel time, and improve urban mobility.
