CDA to Appoint Consultants for Two Projects

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board is expected to approve the appointment of consultants for two crucial road projects in its upcoming meeting: the Serena Interchange and an interchange at the convergence of Jinnah and 9th Avenues. These sites are notorious for severe traffic congestion, especially during rush hours.

The CDA engineering wing has confirmed that professional consultants will design both projects before construction tenders are issued. These projects have been delayed for years, but the board is now prioritizing them with adequate funding in the CDA’s 2024-25 budget.

Last month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed the CDA to expedite these projects. The Serena Interchange project faced previous delays due to bid validity issues, but fresh tenders and designs are now planned. The intersection at Serena Chowk sees heavy traffic from multiple routes, causing significant congestion.

Similarly, the junction of Jinnah Avenue and 9th Avenue, near F-8, experiences severe traffic jams. The CDA aims to address this by hiring consultants to prepare detailed designs and supervise construction, with tenders to follow soon.

A CDA board member confirmed the projects are on the agenda for the next board meeting, which was postponed from June 22 and is expected to be held this week. The member expressed confidence that the projects would proceed promptly, even if some board positions remain vacant.
