ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to provide land in Islamabad’s Sector I-17 to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for establishing two universities. This allocation is part of CDA’s initiative to develop Sector I-17 as a hub for educational institutions, following approvals from the CDA Board and federal government.
Previously, in 2007, the HEC acquired 250 acres in the Kuri area to build the University of Engineering, Sciences, and Technology, and a designated space for the National University of Law. However, possession issues due to local residents delayed the project. To resolve this, the CDA is offering alternative plots in Sector I-17, ensuring progress on the construction of universities.
This move comes alongside the CDA’s collaborative efforts with the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) on the Margalla Enclave Housing Project, which is also gaining momentum.
HEC officials have emphasized the importance of securing the new land and expediting construction to prevent further delays or risks of encroachment.
